Start with the economics of the treatment—not a generic ad budget.
The useful question is not “What does a dental click cost?” It is “How many qualified treatment enquiries can the clinic handle, and what is a sustainable cost for producing one?” A clinic selling hygiene, implants and full-mouth rehabilitation should not use one target CPA for all three.
Media cost is only one layer. The operating model must include campaign management, landing-page work, call tracking, consent-safe analytics and the clinic team’s ability to answer quickly. A low platform CPA can still be expensive when half of the calls are irrelevant or unanswered.
| Period | Tracked Google Ads conversions | Weighted media CPA |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 10,601 | €2.07 |
| Jan–Aug 2026 | 8,087 | €2.76 |
DENTA project reporting. A conversion is a tracked call or lead action, not a confirmed new patient. Media CPA excludes agency fees.
Separate treatments, intent and geography.
Build campaign groups around the decision a patient is making: emergency care, implants, orthodontics, veneers, hygiene or a named location. Brand searches, competitor searches and general treatment searches behave differently and should not share one budget.
- One treatment family per tightly controlled campaign group.
- Negative keywords for jobs, training, DIY, free care and unrelated locations.
- Location settings based on where the clinic can realistically accept patients.
- Ad copy that continues on the landing page instead of sending every click to the homepage.
The landing page has to finish the search conversation.
A patient who searches for an implant consultation needs price context, candidacy, the clinical team, the process, trust signals and one clear next step. Adding more traffic before fixing this journey simply pays to expose the same friction faster.
Use call tracking and forms, but do not stop at the platform conversion. Return lead quality, booked consultation and treatment acceptance to the reporting layer whenever the clinic’s CRM permits it.
Turn the target into a forecast before launch.
Estimate available searches by treatment and location, apply a realistic click-through rate, landing-page conversion range and answer rate, then compare the expected volume with clinic capacity. The forecast is a decision tool, not a promise.
- Desired tracked actions × expected media CPA = initial media envelope.
- Expected enquiries × contact rate = conversations the team must handle.
- Conversations × booking rate = consultation capacity required.
- Review search terms and lead quality weekly during the learning period.
Scale only after relevance and measurement agree.
The safest sequence is demand forecast, campaign structure, page alignment, conversion tracking, lead-quality feedback and then budget growth. Scaling before those pieces agree makes waste harder to diagnose.
Questions clinic teams ask.
How much should a dentist spend on Google Ads?+
Start from treatment economics, local search demand and consultation capacity. Use a forecast rather than a universal minimum. Our published CPA figures are observed media costs from one dental project, not guaranteed market rates.
What counts as a dental Google Ads conversion?+
In the DENTA benchmark, conversions are tracked calls and lead actions. They are not automatically confirmed appointments or new patients.
Should every treatment have a separate landing page?+
High-value and meaningfully different treatments normally need their own relevant destination, message, proof and next step.
